Access to education has given me more than knowledge—it has given me purpose. I can now pursue my dream of improving farming practices in rural communities and making a real difference in food security.
Student Journey
Background
Aisha grew up in a rural village outside Kampala, where she was raised by her grandmother after losing both parents to illness when she was young. Despite the hardships, Aisha showed exceptional academic promise from an early age. Her teachers recognized her talent, particularly in the sciences, and encouraged her to pursue higher education.
After completing her A-Level examinations with outstanding results, Aisha earned admission to Makerere University's Bachelor of Science in Agriculture program. However, without financial support, attending university seemed impossible. Her grandmother's small farming income could barely cover daily expenses, let alone university tuition and academic materials.
Academic Achievement
Aisha passed her A-Level examinations with distinction, earning top marks in Biology, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Her performance placed her among the top students in her district, demonstrating not only her intellectual ability but also her determination to succeed despite challenging circumstances.
At Makerere University, she has maintained a strong academic record, consistently ranking in the upper quartile of her class. Her professors describe her as dedicated, curious, and passionate about applying agricultural science to solve real-world problems facing Ugandan farmers.
How the Sponsorship Helped
In 2021, Kapporeth Charity International provided Aisha with an education sponsorship that covered her university tuition fees and essential academic materials. This support removed the primary barrier preventing her from accessing higher education.
The sponsorship covered her tuition for the Bachelor of Science in Agriculture program, as well as textbooks, laboratory materials, notebooks, and other learning resources required for her coursework. With these essentials secured, Aisha could focus entirely on her studies rather than worrying about how to pay for her education.
While the sponsorship did not cover accommodation, transportation, or daily living expenses, Aisha found support through community networks and part-time work during university breaks. The education sponsorship made it possible for her to attend university in the first place, and she has made the most of this opportunity.
Future Aspirations
Aisha's goal is to return to rural communities and work with smallholder farmers to improve agricultural practices. She is particularly interested in sustainable farming methods, soil health, and crop rotation strategies that can increase yields while protecting the environment.
She dreams of establishing an agricultural training center where farmers can learn modern techniques and access resources that help them improve productivity and income. Her lived experience growing up in a farming household gives her unique insight into the challenges rural farmers face.
Beyond her career ambitions, Aisha hopes to inspire other young people, especially girls from rural areas, to pursue education in agriculture and related fields. She understands firsthand how access to education can transform lives and create opportunities for entire communities.
